ALL400s: IBM i Community Hub

A community and sponsor website rebuild. Find them at all400s.com.

Before
The original all400s.com home page: a narrow centered column of images and dashed separator lines
After
The rebuilt ALL400s home page: a clean responsive layout with a clear headline and cards

The problem

ALL400s has been a real hub for the IBM i community for years, and the content behind it is genuinely useful: the companies list, the locations map, the hiring board, and a long roster of sponsors. But it was built as a fixed-width, centered layout held together by images and dashed separator lines. Sponsor logos were pictures with no text beside them, so you had to already know each company to know what they did. On a phone the whole page shrank to an unreadable strip.

What we did

Rebuilt it as a responsive site that leads with what ALL400s actually is, then puts the three main tools (Companies Download, Company Locations Map, and Hiring Board) in cards at the top where people can find them. The sponsor roster became a proper directory: every company gets its logo, its name, and a line on what it does. All the original navigation carried over, so regular visitors land exactly where they expect. Behind it sits a full admin page where the ALL400s team can add a sponsor, update a listing, or change any of the content themselves. The admin fills in the content, and the layout holds its shape no matter what gets typed, so the site cannot drift back into a patchwork.

Results

  • Readable on phones and tablets. The old layout was desktop-only.
  • Every sponsor now says who they are and what they do, not just a logo.
  • A full admin page for adding sponsors and editing content, with no HTML to touch.
  • The layout stays enforced, so new content cannot break the design.
  • Readers can switch the whole site to dark mode if they prefer it.
  • Same site structure and navigation, so nothing got lost in the move.

iJob Exchange

A rebuild of the ALL400s hiring board. Find it at ijobexchange.com.

Before
The original board.all400s.com: a table layout listing available candidates with columns for name, country, and years of experience
After
The rebuilt iJob Exchange: a clean layout with the headline 'Work on one side. People on the other.' and a Latest openings section

Two sides, one board. Candidates post profiles, employers post openings, and a semantic matcher ranks them against each other—reading prose, not checkboxes, so it knows RPGLE and RPG IV are the same thing. Resumes stay private until requested, contact details are never published, and the board deliberately refuses to ask for age, photos, or graduation years.

New Builds

UFC Pick’em

A free pick’em game for UFC events: make your picks, longer odds pay more, and a leaderboard settles it. ufc-pickem.com.

The UFC Pick’em event page: a dark fight-card layout with each bout showing both fighters, their odds and buttons to pick a winner and a finish

The Driftless Reader

Book clubs for the Driftless Area. Take turns picking the book and hosting the gathering. driftlessreader.com.

The Driftless Reader home page: a book club almanac showing each month's book, host, and gathering details against a backdrop of the Mississippi bluffs

Your club’s season in one place: the books, where you’re meeting, who’s coming, who’s bringing the pie, and what everyone thought. The admin sets up the season, members trade months if they need to, and the almanac view keeps the whole year visible at a glance.
